Wildlife Conservation Section (WCS)

  • Formulate and recommend policies, plans and programs for the conservation and protection of wild flora and fauna including their habitats;
  • Prepare and update the national list of threatened wild flora and fauna;
  • Recommend strategies for in-situ and ex-situ conservation of wildlife, including measures to maintain/enhance genetic diversity and prevent/ control invasive alien species;
  • Develop/enhance standards on wildlife baselining and population monitoring;
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of plans, policies, projects and programs on the conservation and protection of wildlife resources;
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to DENR Regional/Field Offices in the implementation of wildlife conservation programs and projects;
  • Maintain updated data/information and prepare reports on wildlife resources conservation, including species distribution, population and conservation status;
  • Developand implement capacity building programs on wildlife conservation;
  • Facilitate dissemination and exchange of information on the conservation of wildlife resources;
  • Monitor and evaluate, including provision of technical assistance in the operation of the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center, and Regional Wildlife Rescue Centers;
  • Provide day-to-day veterinary care and services to the National Wildlife Rescue Center; and
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned.
